The JCC welcomes adults who are seeking intellectual, cultural and social programming. We also run day trips and special events several times a year. Please call to be put on our mailing list, if you are not already on it, so that you won’t miss out on these occasions. Some adult programs can be tried once for free, so don’t hesitate to come in and see what we’re all about. 

Evening Adult Programs

MAH JONGG: Beginner’s NEW!
For All Ages
Join the growing ranks of those playing this popular game of skill and chance. The course follows the National Mah Jongg League rules. An easy game to learn. After completion of this class the student will be comfortable with the Mah Jongg game language and ready to play with others. Class time includes actual playing segments. Fun and mentally stimulating! Materials provided but feel free to bring your own set. Alex Pollack, National Mah Jongg League rules teacher Thursdays 7:15-9:15pm 8 Sessions begins October 16 – December 11 $150 plus a one time $6.50 materials fee Advance registration required by October 10th Minimum of eight for the class to run / Meet a group or bring your own group.

Book Club
Join this monthly book discussion group to share your thoughts and reactions as you look beneath the surface of contemporary fiction.  Debbie Rapaport, Moderator, Linda Flaxer, Coordinator, ext. 227

Debbie Rapaport, Former Chair, Friends of Scarsdale Library, and a long-time book club participant, has previously hosted a cable TV show, worked in adult educational programming and is an active Scarsdale community volunteer.

Linda Flaxer, as former head of the JCC's Adult Learning Institute, started the JCC book Club seven years ago and has been a loyal participant and co-leader ever since.

Connections
A cultural, social and informational day. Morning and afternoon programs, led by outstanding professionals, offer a variety of stimulating subjects, including current events, art, music, book reviews, intellectual social and Jewish issues.  Periodically a trip is planned to visit museums, theatres, historical sites and other places of interest (at an extra fee).  The group socializes over kosher style brown bag lunches brought from home.  Light refreshments served.

Plays on Film

Expand your appreciation of theatre and film, by viewing adaptations of famous theatre pieces for the screen. Viewings will
begin with a review of the play, playwright, movie director and actors and discussion of the unique nature of the adaptation.

TRIPS NEW!
A series of trips to museums, galleries, cultural performances, and other interesting sites. A cooperative program with the JCC of Mid-Westchester and the PALs – People at Leisure program of the JCC on the Hudson.

Urban Glass:
Visit a unique not-for-profit facility in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn. Take a guided tour of the studio and workshop and watch a glass blowing demonstration.

About the Director, Sheila Sturmer
A former New York City teacher and JCC Day Camp Director, Sheila has headed up Jewish programming at the JCC for more than 20 years, providing the community with a range of stimulating educational and cultural programs. She is active in the Jewish community beyond the JCC, and is a member of the JCCA Jewish Educators’ Forum.
