JCC MID-WESTCHESTER TO HOST THE JCC MACCABI GAMES® IN 2009! - view flyer

The JCC Maccabi Games are an Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in North America and is the largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world. The Maccabi Movement began in 1895 when the first all-Jewish sports club was formed in Constantinople. The first World Maccabiah Games were held in Israel in 1932. The Continental Games were introduced in 1982 and are held each August in multiple sites throughout North America with athletes from all over the world including Israel, Australia and Europe.

  • 5 Days and nights of recreation, sports and friends for teens ages 13 - 16
  • 1,500 athletes: 1,100 visiting and 400 local
  • 500 + coaches for 14 sports
  • 800 + host families opening their homes
  • 1,500 local volunteers of all ages
  • 10,000 + people attending the games

Through the JCC Maccabi Games athletes experience home hospitality and participate in Jewish programming such as Hangtime, Munich 11 Tribute, Rachmanus and Days of Caring and Sharing. The games:

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for Jewish teens to cultivate Jewish values while enriching their Jewish identity
     

  • Enhance athletic, social and cultural growth
     

  • Promote community involvement teamwork, integrity and pride through volunteerism in a variety of community service projects

  4. Events: Dignitary Reception, Opening Ceremony, Technical Meeting, Host Family Night, Evening Events Tuesday and Evening Event Wednesday, Closing Party
     
  5. Finance: Budget, Fundraising, Insurance/Legal
     
  6. Food and Hospitality: Hotels and General Information Desks, Meals, Snacks, Visiting Family Reception
     
  7. Jewish Programming: Ambiance, Days of Caring and Sharing, Hang Time
     
  8. Local Delegation: Budget/Finance, Local Coaches, Local Athletes, Year Round Programming
     
  9. Operations: Communications, Facility Management, Medical, Security, Transportation, Venue Directors, Water and Ice
     
  10. Public Relations and Marketing: Games Marketing, Newsletters, Photography and Video, Program Ad Book, Guide Book, Website
