Summer Arts Center
(SAC)
The
joy of creative expression is what Summer Arts Center (SAC) is all
about. Developed for the creative and independent child, who is
interested in the arts, SAC provides a non-competitive, nurturing
atmosphere in which children are encouraged to explore their
creativity.
The SAC Day
The SAC Day SACers begin each day with an energetic and fun-filled morning
assembly, followed by 2 morning classes, lunch and 2 afternoon
classes. We end each SAC day together, to enjoy snack and spend time
to meet up with new and old friends. Instructional swim is offered
twice weekly for all SACers and recreational swim is offered to
everyone on Fridays.
The Three Majors
Each SACer will choose one of three majors: Art, Dance or Theatre,
but are also encouraged to move out of their comfort zone and take
electives outside their field of interest. Participants are
encouraged to take part in a mid-season mini production.
-
Art
Our state of the art ceramics and painting studios allow for the
creation of beautiful and advanced projects in all areas of fine
arts. Requirements for Art majors include drawing and painting with
charcoal, pencil, water color, acrylics and tempera paints. Also
required are ceramics and craft classes. Some wheel throwing will be
included in our ceramic instruction.
-
Dance
Our talented faculty teaches campers in professional dance studios
each day. All Ballet classes are taught with an accompanist which
helps foster a better understanding of dance as well as a love of
music. Requirements for Dance majors include Classical Ballet, Tap
and Jazz. Please call Jayne Santoro at 472-3300 x 320 for an
appointment for placement.
-
Theatre
A 214 seat state-of-the-art theatre is home to our many theatre
classes. Our talented professional faculty teaches all areas of
theatre, and a performance component is available to both full
summer and half summer campers. Required classes include Musical
Theatre, Acting, Improvisation and Theatre Games.

many of our professional staff return each summer. They are assisted
by older teen counselors, many of whom are SAC alumnae.
Facilities
All classes are held in the JCC’s air-conditioned, professional

sprung floor. SAC’s theatre classes are held in the Bendheim

Counselor In
Training Program (CIT)
For students entering 9th and 10th grade Leadership training and
“pre-job” experience is what you will gain from our CIT program.
Choose to be paired with counselors to learn how to supervise and
interact with campers, assist a specialist and learn how to lead an
activity. There will be a weekly community service component as well
as group classes and fun weekly trips.

SAC CIT Program
(NEW!)
The goal of
this program is to offer students entering 9th and 10th grade the
opportunity to learn, develop and grow, both in the arts and as
young adults. Each CIT will participate in group classes designed
for their age group, such as interviewing guidelines, technical
theatre, web design, and cake decorating. CITs will also participate
daily in one regular SAC class of their choosing. In addition, these
students will spend half of the camp day assisting teachers and
counselors in young SAC classes and will learn the skills to be a
responsible and compassionate counselor. CITs will participate in
weekly community service activity as well as attend trips to a
museum, concert, dance performance and theatre performance.
